Alice has recently been commissioned to paint the buildings and landscape of Edge Hill University for 'Gifts' to visitors. Her watercolour of the rock garden was the university Christmas card. for 2011. Alice established her own online art gallery,TAG in 2008 of which she curates exhibitions for other artists. She has covered a diverse range of subject matter and developed her expertise working in oil on canvas. Her love of beautiful objects, jewellery and pattern combined with her interest in fairytales and the more reflective nature of otherworldly deities.has led her to cover a range of themes from eclectic portraits of women to the more popular culture and 'realism' paintings inspired by city nightlife and landscape.
“Painting is a kind of meditiation for me. I paint beautiful faces and colour compositions. I find this relaxing and challenging. My paintings seek to capture my fascination with history, the decorative and my love of fairytales and folklore. My paintings are about my emotions and exploration of the inner self.
My work aims to develop from somewhere quite mysterious and magical, removed from anything too rational or prescriptive. I am interested in the hidden world of the imagination, outsider and visionary art. I have worked on a number of exhibitions, solo and group exhibits. Please check out my exhibitions and artworks and do keep in touch.''
''Informed by a cosmopolitan aesthetic perspective, but also fine-tuned to a keen, modern sense of place, Liverpool-based Alice Lenkiewicz is an extremely versatile artist who has created a substantial body of work in many different media formats: each work the statement of a unique talent.
The different media include collage, oils, watercolour, drawings and graphics, photography, digital, assemblage, ceramics, avant-garde poetry, intimate personal psychohistory, and found objects.
Her imagination, filtered through an acute feminist sensibility, is sometimes revealed to us in the form of personal fantasy worlds. It can also be channelled into expressionistic, semi-abstract visual images or a decorative style evoking the wilder shores of European Symbolism: a domain where Art Nouveau once intersected with folk legend to externalise the archetypes. Here we find hieratic figures of ‘beautiful people’; here we meet Anne Boleyn, and sassy witches, ethereal angels, Vivien Leigh and The Cheshire Cat.
The eye, said Andre Breton, exists ‘in its savage state’, and Alice Lenkiewicz confirms this axiom with her jewel-like colours and a rich ‘fauvist’ palette where stained glass melts into a compelling, almost tactile, amalgam of the formal and the informal, where the expressionistic and the linear intertwine, where a neo-romantic worldview collides with gritty realism, the rhetoric of Pop and spooky ‘shadow photographs’. If you are attentive you may, perhaps, detect an almost lyrical incursion of mysticism into Princes Park, and, if you look with your inner eye, you may decipher the esoteric symbolism of autumnal leaves and dilapidated doorways.
Alice has suggested that her digital art works disclose ‘another dimension’ or indeed another reality. Yet this is true of all her work, which provokes the viewer to see every neglected object as a precipitate of desire, and every new project as ‘another journey’. These works are an excursion into forbidden territory and an illumination of hitherto hidden places; they disclose a vivid personal reality already familiar, but tragically unattainable – until now.''
